Berhampur: A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life by a court in Odisha’s Ganjam district for killing his wife over dowry around six years ago.
Additional District Judge Indu Sharma, while convicting Sushant Bisoi and awarding him life term on Friday, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
On December 17, 2016, the convict had set ablaze his wife, Sangeeta, after pouring kerosene on her at Konkorada village under the jurisdiction of Pattapur police station.
The mother of two children succumbed to the injuries after battling for life for six days at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, Additional Public Prosecutor Kureshu Gouda was quoted by PTI as saying.
According to a complaint filed by Sangeeta’s mother, Bisoi started torturing her daughter a few years after marriage in 2012 demanding more dowry.
