Nashik: Manjulata Kshirsagar’s son Suhas had promised to fulfil her wish to be buried near her husband’s grave in Manmad, in Nashik district.
But 76-year-old Manjulata died in September at a hospital in Malegaon, 37 km away from her hometown.
She was admitted there for treatment of a heart ailment. Doctors suspected she had developed pneumonia and feared she may have contracted COVID-19 as well.
Her swab sample was taken, but before the result came, Manjulata passed away, reported The Indian Express.
Local officials said the body could not be taken to Manmad, leaving Suhas with no option but to bury her in Malegaon.
Suhas, however, could not get over the fact that he had not been able to fulfil his mother’s last wish. After several visits to municipal and government offices at Malegaon and Manmad, he came to know that Manjulata had not contracted the coronavirus infection.
After a three-month struggle, Suhas finally managed to get clearance to have his mother’s body exhumed and taken to Manmad. And on Thursday, he buried his mother at St Barnaba Church cemetery, next to his father’s grave.
“It feels as if a weight has been taken off my chest. I managed to fulfil my mother’s last wish,” The Indian Express quoted Suhas as saying.
