Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested for allegedly posing as a loan recovery agent and forcibly taking away a vehicle in Bhubaneswar though the owner had reportedly cleared the instalment.
Sources said the fake agent was allegedly demanding extra money even after the EMI was paid.
The arrested person, identified as Deepak Baliarsingh, was accused of being the mastermind of a recovery-agent gang. He was nabbed by Saheed Nagar police and forwarded to the court following a complaint by a vehicle owner.
As per information, Deepak was reportedly working as a recovery agent in an agency named Maa Bhagabati Associates. He reportedly lifted a car on Tuesday following which the vehicle owner lodged a complaint at Saheed Nagar Police Station. Based on the complaint, police swung into action and apprehended Deepak.
It is alleged that Deepak exploited several people in a similar manner. Police have seized two cars from his possession. A hunt is underway to trace and apprehend other members of the gang.
The accused, on the other hand, claimed that he had not done anything forcefully, and said he took action as per the bank rule. The vehicle was seized in the proper way after bank gave him the authorisation, he claimed, accusing the police of implicating him falsely.
