Man In Odisha Sells Wife’s Ornaments To Avail Govt Scheme Benefits
Bhubaneswar: In a mad rush to avail the benefits of the state government’s much-hyped Subhadra scheme, a man in Gajapati district’s Nuagada block allegedly mortgaged his wife’s gold ornaments to a purchase a mobile phone so that he could use the same for linking the latter’s number with her Aadhaar card.
The incident surfaced as the man went to a local shop for purchasing the phone and SIM card. The man apparently claimed that he was left with no other option than to mortgage his wife’s jewellery as he could not afford a phone, according to sources.
The man wants to avail benefits of the Subhadra scheme that offers provide financial aid of Rs 50,000 to women over five years. A video of the man sharing his story went viral on social media.
To avail the benefits of the scheme, applicants are needed to link their Aadhaar number to a mobile number. This is a key step that enables them to receive a one-time password (OTP) for verification of the details.
Additionally, the applicants must also ensure that their Aadhaar details and mobile number are linked to their bank accounts. The scheme was the highlight of BJP’s manifesto for the 2024 elections in Odisha.
