Talcher: In a shocking incident, a man was allegedly killed after being attacked with a screwdriver near Talcher Police Station in Odisha’s Angul district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Santosh Mahapatra of Talcher town area.
Sources said the accused, identified as Chagala Amanta, had invited Santosh recently to cook at a feast. During the feast, Chagala reportedly accused Santosh of stealing Rs 7,200, which sparked a heated argument between the two. The row over the money continued to simmer between the two.
On Saturday, the two reportedly came face to face near Talcher Police Station, where a fresh altercation broke out over the same issue. The confrontation soon turned violent and the accused allegedly attacked Santosh on the neck using a screwdriver, leaving him critically injured.
Santosh was rescued by police personnel and shifted him to Mandapal Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
While the body was sent for post-mortem examination, the accused has been detained and investigation is in progress, said a senior police official.
