Berhampur: Police have detained a man for allegedly killing his wife for cooking on gas stove in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to sources, Mithun Nayak of of Rugumu village under Dharakote block in the district asked his wife Lili Nayak to cook the day’s meal by using firewood. But Lili insisted on cooking on the LPG stove as it was easy and convenient for her.
It led to an argument between them. As Lili went ahead and cooked on the stove, Mithun got infuriated and started scolding her. In a fit of rage, he hit Lili with a sharp weapon.
On hearing the shouting of the couple, the neighbours went to their house and rushed a profusely bleeding Lili to the Community Health Centre at Dharakote. But the doctors of the hospital declared her brought dead.
On being informed, police went to the hospital and sent the body for post-mortem. They also detained Mithun and seized the weapon used in the crime.
While the police have registered a case, Lili’s parents alleged that Mithun and his family were torturing her for a long time. Mithun was a habitual drinker and Lili used to object to his habit, they added.
