Berhampur: More than Rs 1 lakh was withdrawn from the bank account of a man without his knowledge after he lost his mobile phone in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per reports, the man, staying in an apartment in Bhejiput of Bhanjanagar of the district, had gone to the market at Ankuli Industrial Estate for Diwali shopping on October 24. While moving around the market, he left his mobile phone unknowingly in a shop.
Later, when he could know that he had lost the phone, he tried to trace it but failed. Then he purchased another cellphone and SIM card with his old number. After uploading the PhonePe, the online payment app, in his new phone, he checked the account and found Rs 1.25 lakh debited from his bank account. The entire amount was withdrawn in 10 phases.
He has filed a complaint in this regard with Berhampur Cyber and Economic Offences police station.
