Berhampur: A man gave Rs 15 lakh to a broker to buy a plot of land in Odisha’s Ganjam district, only to realise later that he had been cheated. The ‘plot’ which he bought turned out to be part of a road.
The incident took place in Ratnapur area under Kukudakhandi tehsil of the district.
Manoranjan Behera of Nibas village near Haladiapada had bought the ‘plot’ — a ‘0.850-acre patch in the name of 10 people’ — from a broker identified as Tuna Das. Behera gave Rs 15 lakh to Das to buy the ‘plot’.
But the ‘plot’ turned out to be part of a road. Behera realised that he had been cheated and sought his money back from Das, who refused to return his money and threatened to kill him. Behera has lodged a police case.
