Puri: A man, playing the role of Laxman, sustained critical injuries in a firecracker explosion during a Ramlila performance at Dhobakhal area in Odisha’s Puri late on Tuesday.
Police have identified the victim as Sukant Pradhan (30) of Sahanikera village under Puri Sadar police limits. “Prima facie it appears that the incident took place when some youths were bursting crackers in the area. Sukant sustained injures on his right hand. He was initially admitted to the district headquarters hospital here and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for better treatment,” an officer said.
He further said that a case has been registered at Baliapanda police station against unknown persons on the basis of the complaint lodged by the organisers. “Investigation is on to ascertain whether there was some dispute between the organisers and the people of the area and accordingly action will be taken,” he added.
