Rourkela: A man, posing as astrologer, allegedly robbed a woman of her gold jewellery in Rourkela of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday.
According to the police complaint, filed by the woman, she was returning from a temple at Malgodown Chhak in the city after performing puja when the man intercepted her to know an address. While they were talking about the address, the man introduced himself as an astrologer.
Out of curiosity, the woman asked whether he could tell what was in store for her in future. The man told her that she would have a tough time soon as her son would pass away. She would face family disputes and other troubles also, he predicted.
Perturbed by the prediction, the woman wanted to know any solution to evade the misfortune. The unidentified man told her to take off her gold earrings and necklace so that he would wash those with holy water from Ganga.
As the woman believed him and handed over her ornaments, the man told her to take a few steps ahead and then ran away from the spot.
Later, the woman filed a complaint at the local police station. The police registered a case and were checking the CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused.
