Man Shot Dead In Odisha’s Dhenkanal; Accused’s Wife, 3-Year-Old Son Injured In ‘Revenge’ Attack; BJP Blames BJD

Dhenkanal: A 56-year-old man was shot dead at his house in Kandhapal village under Gengutia panchayat in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday, drawing accusations from the BJP that the BJD was behind the murder.

The deceased was identified as Dalei Nayak. He was shot in the stomach and chest.

In a violence spiral, soon after the murder, the wife and three-year-old son of one of the accused were critically injured after they were allegedly attacked by the deceased’s family members.

Dalei was sitting on the verandah of his house when he was shot dead by assailants at around 7 am. Soon after, Dalei’s family members allegedly attacked the wife and son of one of the accused. They were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

BJP leader Ramchandra Patra alleged that it was a political killing carried out by the BJD.

On April 9 night, bombs were hurled at the residence of Jayanti Patra, the newly elected chairperson of Dhenkanal municipality.

It was the second time the BJP leader’s house was targeted. On March 30 night, she alleged that shots were fired in front of her house and that she also received death threats.

Union Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had expressed concern over the hurling of bombs at the residence of Jayanti.

“Deeply shocked and disturbed by the selective targeting and continued string of attacks, including hurling of bombs, at the residence of Smt. Jayanti and Shri Ramchandra Patra in Dhenkanal,” Pradhan had tweeted.
