Sambalpur: A 29-year-old patient on Wednesday jumped off the ENT department building of VIMSAR in Odisha’s Burla, where he was undergoing treatment after an alleged attempt to end his life by slitting his throat.
The patient has been identified as Subir Sirdar of Bhatigaon under Bijepur police limits in Bargarh district
According to sources, he had allegedly tried to take his own life on Tuesday night by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon. Initially admitted to Bargarh’s district headquarters hospital in critical condition, he was transferred to VIMSAR early Wednesday.
After primary treatment at the casualty ward, he was moved to the ENT department for a scheduled surgery at 11.30 am. While waiting outside the operation theatre with a relative, he slipped away and jumped from the building’s roof. Fortunately, he survived this second suicide attempt as hospital staff and bystanders rushed to his help and took him back to the casualty ward, where he got some stitches for the injuries.
