New Delhi: A 27-year-old man, who allegedly set himself on fire along with a woman outside the Supreme Court on August 16, died on Saturday.
According to police, the woman is undergoing treatment.
The man had suffered 65 per cent burns while the 24-year-old woman had received 85 per cent burn injuries. Police personnel present on the spot doused the fire by wrapping them with blankets. Both were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi, Deepak Yadav said that the police team present on the spot immediately put blankets on them and doused the fire. He told that both were immediately taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
The DCP had said that investigation is on to find out what provoked the duo to attempt self-immolation.
It is suspected that the woman, who hails from Ghazipur in UP, tried to commit suicide for fear of being implicated in a false case after she was allegedly raped by a BSP MP in 2019. Rai is in judicial custody for two years, but the woman claimed in a video that some influential people, including senior police officers, are supporting the accused.
