Bhubaneswar: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit Odisha on Monday on the occasion of ‘Mandia Dibasa’ (Millet Day).
The Union minister will attend the inaugural session of Mandia Dibasa as the chief guest, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare said in a press release.
Chouhan will highlight the Centre’s initiatives to encourage the production, processing and consumption of millets across Odisha and the rest of India.
The Agriculture minister will also visit the Sadar region of Cuttack, undertake field visits and directly interact with farmers.
Chouhan will also participate in a joint strategic meeting at the ICAR – Central Rice Research Institute to strengthen the implementation of key national agricultural initiatives.
The Union minister’s visit is a significant step towards advancing sustainable and self-reliant agriculture in Odisha.
Odisha has been celebrating Mandia Dibasa on November 10 since 2022 to promote millet cultivation and its consumption across the state.
November 10 was chosen as the date to celebrate and promote Mandia (millet) as an eco-friendly and healthy food product as it coincides with the first Thursday of Margasira month when people across the state worship Mahalaxmi and offer millet to the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
