Paradip: Body of a man was found lying on a coal-laden goods train in the port town of Paradip in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday.
Sources said the train, which had originated from Talcher, was headed to the premises of a private company inside the port when the body was spotted. Personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) first noticed the body as the train entered the port area and informed the police.
While the cause of the man’s death was yet to be ascertained, police have launched an investigation into the incident after registration of complaint. Efforts are on to ascertain whether the victim was electrocuted by overhead wires while travelling atop the open-roof wagon, or if he was murdered and dumped on the train.
Another angle under investigation is the possible role of coal theft gangs, which are known to target such consignments during transit.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. Investigators are checking for any identification proof on the body and examining whether it bears external injuries.
