Many Jaundice Cases Surface In Odisha’s Cuttack; Locals Allege Contaminated Water

Bhubaneswar: Around 80 people are reportedly suffering from jaundice in Rajendra Nagar area of Odisha’s Cuttack city.

Jaundice cases came to the light on Saturday after four persons in the area initially tested positive for the disease. Subsequently, the number of jaundice positive cases shot up to 86, reports said.

Local residents claimed that contaminated drinking water had led to spread of jaundice cases in Rajendra Nagar area. They said the issue of drinking water contamination was raised with the local corporator and authorities of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) a few days ago but  no step was taken.

Several locals claimed that many water pipes in the area are exposed to drains. Drain water often enters into the pipes through breaches, they claimed.

A team from the CMC health department inspected Rajendra Nagar and took stock of the jaundice situation, sources said.
