Bhubaneswar: Maruti has launched the 3rd generation of its popular Wagon R on Wednesday. The ‘tall boy’ car carries a starting price of Rs 4.19 Lakh. The top end AMT-equipped is priced at Rs 5.69 lakh.
The new car has grown bigger in dimensions, a full 125mm wider. Maruti has added a 1.2-litre engine as an option this time, apart from the existing 1.0 litre. The 83hp 1.2-litre is available in VXi and ZXi trims. The 1.0-litre petrol engine produces 68hp.
The new Wagon R is now based on Maruti’s Heartect platform which is used on the Ertiga, Ignis, Baleno and Swift. The company claims that this platform is lighter and safer, and will meet the upcoming crash test norms, and will also improve the handling.
Maruti has equipped the base model with a driver-side airbag, just like its primary competitor Hyundai Santro. ABS, EBD and rear parking sensors are now standard on all variants.
Gadget wise, the car gets 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, power mirrors, front fog lamps, etc.
The Wagon R’s chief competitors are Hyundai Santro (Rs 3.90-5.47 lakh) and Tata Tiago (Rs 4.03-5.64 lakh).
