Bhubaneswar: Maruti might have campaigned against diesel engines after discontinuing them, post BS6 era. However, diesel variants did contribute around 23 per cent of its sales in the previous financial year.
Even though the price gap is very small between petrol and diesel, there is a large demand for diesel models in premium cars, specially SUVs.
Team BHP on Monday reported, citing an anonymous informer, that a 1.5-litre BS6-complaint diesel unit is almost ready and will be coming to the market in the Ertiga and Ciaz first.
It is safe to predict that this engine will subsequently find its way to the Vitara Brezza.
