Bargarh: A massive fire broke out at a sack manufacturing unit in Bardol area of Odisha’s Bargarh district on Monday, causing extensive damage to the factory.
The blaze, which erupted in the factory located on the outskirts of Bargarh town in the afternoon, sparked panic among locals as thick smoke engulfed the entire area following the incident.
While no one was reported to have been hurt, a huge quantity of materials stored in the factory was destroyed in the blaze. Factory workers and employees had a narrow escape as they swiftly moved out of the premises after the fire erupted.
Sources said the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of highly inflammable raw materials stored inside the factory.
On being informed, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and at least five fire tenders were pressed into service to combat the inferno. Firefighters encountered a tough time in controlling the blaze as thick smoke enveloped the entire area. They were able to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures and residential areas.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Officials said a detailed assessment of the damage will be carried out once the fire is fully doused.
