Mumbai: A massive fire erupted in Mumbai’s Dharavi near a bus depot after multiple gas cylinders exploded on a truck. Fire tenders reached the spot to control the blaze, and no casualties have been reported.
The fire broke out around 9:50 pm in PNGP Colony near Maharashtra Nature Park on Sion Dharavi Link Road after a truck carrying dozens of gas cylinders exploded, officials said.
Officials said 19 fire tenders were deployed to control the level II fire, which was confined to the truck. No injuries were reported, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
An LPG cylinder in the truck exploded, triggering the fire, said Deputy Chief Fire Officer Santosh Sawant to Hindustan Times. The cylinders, typically used for home deliveries, intensified the blaze. Four nearby vehicles were damaged, and officials have identified the truck driver, with efforts underway to arrest him.
Congress leader Gaikwad criticized the lack of safety measures, questioning on social media, “Why are buses and trucks from outside being allowed to park here unchecked? Why is there zero enforcement of traffic rules? Where is the accountability?” She called for a full inquiry and strict action against officials, stating, “This negligence could have cost lives – there must be consequences.”
