Massive Protest By Anganwadi Workers In Odisha
Malkangiri: Anganwadi workers staged a massive demonstration in Odisha’s Malkangiri seeking fulfillment of 8-point charter of demands including pay hike on Wednesday.
According to sources, the revocation of dismissal order of some Anganwadi workers, Rs 18,000 salary per month for Anganwadi centres (AWC), and Rs 9,000 salary for Anganwadi assistants are also among their demands. Besides, their demand for Rs 5,000 pension must also be fulfilled.
Their demand also includes a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of an Anganwadi worker in case of death during the service period.
“Government has always kept us forward during any situation throughout the year. But when we demanded our right to get the salary we deserve, we are not getting any response,” said an agitator.
Meanwhile, a large number of Anganwadi workers gheraoed Kendrapada Collector’s office over the same demands.
Notably, Anganwadi workers have been protesting over these demands for more than a month now and decided to move out a rally in order to get their rights. They also raised the slogan of equal pay for equal work.
Previously on December 22, Anganwadi workers from different parts of the state staged a demonstration in Bhubaneswar and launched a dharna near the state Assembly building.
