Dhenkanal: A man was critically injured after being allegedly beaten up by police for supplying cheating materials during the matriculation exam at Gadapalasuni Bapuji Vidyapeeth in Dhenkanal on Saturday.
The injured has been identified as Dambru Sahu. He was allegedly supplying the chits from the boundary of the school to his daughter, who was appearing for the exam, when the on-duty police personnel apprehended him and thrashed him mercilessly, sources said.
He was rescued and later admitted to Parjang hospital.
The injured Dambru, however, claimed that the cops pulled him down and beat him up mercilessly while he was sitting on the boundary wall.
A police officer, on the other hand, said he panicked on seeing the cops and injured himself after falling off the boundary wall.
A similar incident was reported from Biribulei Janata Government High School in the district where guardians of the students broke the boundary of the school to provide chits. They later got into a scuffle with the cops, who had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse them, the sources added.
