MCL Sets Record In Daily Coal Despatch From Odisha Mines
New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) recorded the highest coal despatch on rail mode in a single day with 102 rakes from Ib Valley and Talcher Coalfields sent to various power stations on Tuesday.
The MCL, a Miniratna Company under the Ministry of Coal, recorded highest ever 61 rakes despatch from Talcher coalfields on August 30 by supplying 5.3 lakh tonne of coal to consumers, including more than four lakh tonne coal to various power stations.
Besides, 16 rakes were despatched through MGR-mode (merry-go-round) and more than 1.15 lakh tonne on trucks to various consumers.
Complimenting the teams involved in achieving the record despatch, PK Sinha, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, MCL said, “It is an impressive performance by the Team MCL, with equally great coordination and support from Indian Railways.”
MCL is the second largest coal producing company in India, having mining operations spread over Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Angul districts of Odisha.
As part of its sustainable mining programme, the company is implementing nine First Mile Connectivity projects to provide pollution-free state-of-the-art rake loading system at a cost of Rs 3,600 crore. This will generate a despatch capacity of 126 million tonne per year by 2024.
