Meal In Exchange Of Plastic Starts In Bhubaneswar
To reduce plastic pollution, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday started a novel way to avail an Aahaar meal in lieu of 500 grams of plastic.
BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary made a denizen inaugurate the scheme at an Aahaar centre at Kalpana Square.
The programme has been launched in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Touch Stone Foundation.
“The citizen-centric initiative is a strategy to facilitate collection of household plastic from the city,” the BMC commissioner said.
The maximum quantity of plastic allowed per day per person is one kg. The centres will issue 2 coupons in exchange of one kg of plastic.
