Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to launch the
Measles-Rubella vaccination drive in Odisha from January 29.
Under the five-week campaign, children between the age group of 9 to
15 months will be vaccinated.
“The disease leads to severe disabilities in children. The vaccine
will replace the two-dose measles vaccination being given to the
children between the age groups of 9 and 15 months and 16 and 24
months”, informed Health Secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda following the
second state-level steering committee meeting on Monday here.
Meherda said, “With an aim of the National Immunization Programme is
to eradicate the disease by 2020, the target has been set to cover around
1.2 crore children across the state.
The vaccine will be administered to children at all the government,
private schools and hostels in the state in the first two weeks of the
campaign.”
