An Israeli airstrike on Saturday targeted and destroyed a high-rise building in Gaza City that housed offices of Associated Press (AP) and other media outlets.
It was part of raids which continued in the wake of hostilities escalating between Israel and Hamas since Monday.
An hour before the deadly strike, military officials ordered people to evacuate the 12-storeyed building, which also housed Al-Jazeera, other offices and residential apartments.
The entire structure collapsed in a cloud of dust, reported AP.
The owner of the building received a call from Israeli military warning that the building would be hit. All staff evacuated immediately, and were safe.
News network Al-Jazeera broadcast the airstrikes live as the building collapsed.
“This channel will not be silenced. Al-Jazeera will not be silenced,” an on-air anchorwoman from Al-Jazeera English said. “We can guarantee you that right now.”
Earlier in the day, Israeli raided a densely populated refugee camp, killing at least 10 Palestinians from a family, mostly children.
