Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested a man in the city for posing as a journalist and duping a medical aspirant of Rs 15 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Sunil Samantray.
He was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the duped aspirant at Nayapalli police station in the city.
According to the complaint, Samantray had introduced himself as a journalist working with a media house. He then took Rs 15 lakh from the complainant, promising him to get a seat at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
The accused even issued a fake letter and attached it with a demand draft in the name of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
Police have also seized a Ford Endeavour car and an ID card of a web portal from his possession.
Police said Samantray’s arrest will help them with their investigation into the network of medical seat scam in the state.
Meanwhile, the accused has returned Rs 10 lakh to the victim after registration of the police complaint.
The accused has been charged with fraud and produced in a Bhubaneswar court on Tuesday.
