Meet Iris, India’s First AI Teacher; How Will It Revolutionise Education?

Kochi: Kerala has long been India’s most educated state, with a literacy rate of 94 per cent.

The southern state has now made headlines for a first-of-its-kind innovation in the country – introduction of a generative artificial intelligence (AI) teacher, ‘Iris’.

Iris, unveiled at KTCT Higher Secondary School in the state’s capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, is a humanoid designed to enhance students’ learning experience.

The humanoid has been developed in collaboration with Ernakulam-based Makerlabs Edutech Private Limited.

Makerlabs shared a video of Iris on Instagram, showcasing its potential to transform education.

“With IRIS, we’ve set out to revolutionise education by harnessing the power of AI to create a truly personalised learning experience,” Makerlabs stated.

“Experience the educational revolution with MakerLabs!” the company wrote alongside a video it shared on Instagram.

Iris, been developed under Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project initiated by NITI Aayog, and powered by robotics and generative AI technologies, has several features aimed to revolutionise traditional teaching methods.

Iris has the ability to speak three languages and tackle complex questions, and will provide a personalised learning journey for each student.

Iris, equipped with an Intel processor and dedicated coprocessor, promises to emerge as an invaluable asset in the classroom. Its features include voice assistance, interactive learning modules, manipulation capabilities, and mobility.

According to Makerlabs, Iris as more than just a robot, and is an innovative voice assistant tailored for educational environments.
