Men Showing Increasing Interest For Sterilisation In Odisha, Minister Informs Assembly
Bhubaneswar: Men are showing greater interest in family planning and birth control measures in Odisha, the state Assembly was informed on Monday.
In a written answer in the House, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that the number of male sterilisation has been increasing in the state in the last few years.
Sharing statistics, the minister said that as many as 1792 men came forward for sterilisation in the state in 2023-24, showing considerable rise in their number.
While 991 men had opted for sterilisation in the state in 2021-22, a total of 1569 underwent the birth control procedure in 2022-23.
However, women in the state have shown reduced interest in birth control measures. As many as 82,152 women opted for family planning operation in the state in 2021-22.
Though the number had gone up to 92,915 in 2022-23, it dropped to 80,403 in 2023-24, the Minister said in his reply.
