Bhubaneswar: With the severe cold wave further tightening its grip over Odisha, the mercury plummeted to 4.3 degrees Celsius at G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district on Monday morning, making it the coldest place in the state.
G Udayagiri remained the coldest place in the state for the second day as it had recorded 4.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning.
Semiliguda in Koraput was close second at 4.6°C followed by Phulbani in Kandhamal at 7.2°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The minimum temperature stood at 7.4°C in Jharsuguda, while it was 7.5°C in Daringbadi, 7.6°C in Rourkela, 8°C at Chipilima, 8.8°C in Angul, 8.9°C at Kirei, 9°C in Bhawanipatna and 10°C in Nabarangpur.
The weather agency said that the intense cold wave is expected to continue till December 12 under the impact of the chilly and dry wind flowing from the north-west direction.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 12.1 degrees Celsius, 3.8 degrees below normal, while the mercury stood at 12.4 degrees Celsius in Cuttack.
While dense fog was witnessed in Phulbani, Rourkela experienced moderate fog.
