Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha continued to shiver under biting cold wave conditions on Sunday with the mercury plummeting below ten degree Celsius in at least ten places in the state.
While G Udayagiri, a hill station in Kandhamal district, remained the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of 6.6 degree Celsius, the mercury dropped to 6.8 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda and Rourkela, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Similarly, Phulbani and Daringbadi, both in Kandhamal, recorded 8.5 degree Celsius. Angul and Keonjhar recorded temperature of 9 degree Celsius and 9.2 degree Celsius respectively, while Sundargarh and Bhawanipatna followed closely with 9.4 degree Celsius.
Likewise, Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6 degree Celsius, while Kirei in Sundargarh registered 7.8 degree Celsius and Chipilima 8.2 degree Celsius.
Residents in state capital Bhubaneswar and millennium city of Cuttack experienced severe cold as the minimum temperature has dropped sharply. Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 13 degree Celsius (3 degree below normal, while Cuttack recorded 11.5 degree Celsius (also 3 degree below normal).
The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar indicated that the minimum temperature in most parts of the state is likely to fall further in the coming days. While skies are likely to remain clear, the chill is expected to deepen further.
