Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital has been experiencing colder nights with a sharp drop of 8°C in the mercury levels over the past four days under the influence of the north-westerly winds blowing towards the state.
The night temperature in Bhubaneswar dropped from 25°C on November 1 to 17°C on November 5.
A day after recording the drop of 4.2°C from normal, the city, however, was slightly warmer in the last 24 hours at 20.8°C. G Udayagiri, which recorded 12.4°C the previous day, was coldest in the state on Thursday at 13°C, followed by Phulbani and Daringbadi, also in Kandhamal district, at 15°C. Shallow fog also occurred at one or two places in Sundargarh and Kalahandi districts.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state may experience colder nights throughout this week as north-westerly winds are expected to continue due to a western disturbance. While there is unlikely to be any large change in the minimum temperature over the next two days amid dry weather and clear sky conditions, the mercury level may dip again by 2-3°C during the subsequent three days.
The weather agency has predicted that the night temperature may drop to 17°C again in Bhubaneswar tonight and plummet further to 15°C by November 11. Cuttack is likely to record 16°C on November 11-12.
Mercury level in Phulbani may touch 11°C by November 9, making it the coldest place in the state, it added.
