Bhubaneswar: Continuing its northward march, the mercury in the capital city of Odisha made a sharp rise to 40.4 degree Celsius on Friday.
With the city witnessing constant rise in temperature for the last few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast that the maximum temperature will remain 2 to 4 degree Celsius above normal at many places in Odisha during the next four to five days.
In the last decade, the highest temperature in February was recorded at 40.9 degree Celsius on February 20, 2016 and the all-time high of 42.7 degree on February 23, 1963.
The places where the temperature rose to 35 degree and above on the day are Balasore (37.6), Chandbali (37.2), Cuttack (37.2), Angul (38.1), Baripada (38.6), Jharsuguda (37), Sambalpur (37.1), Hirakud (36.3), Talcher (37.4), Bhawanipatna (37.5), Balangir (38), Titlagarh (37.2), Malkangiri (35.5), Sonepur (37.2), Sundargarh (36) and Nayagarh (38).
