Bhubaneswar: The day temperature in Odisha soared past 40ºC for the first time this season on Wednesday.
A total of 12 places recorded temperature above 38ºC amid the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) heatwave warning for four days from Thursday.
Boudh was the hottest at 40.5 ºC, followed by Balangir (39.9ºC), Titlagarh (39.5ºC), Jharsuguda (39.4ºC), Sundargarh (39.4ºC), Sambalpur (39.3ºC), Baripada (39ºC), Sonepur (38.9ºC), Bhadrak (38.8ºC), Hirakud (38.7ºC), Rourkela (38.4ºC) and Bhawanipatna (38.4ºC).
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 37ºC and 36.6ºC respectively.
According to the weather agency, the day temperature is likely to gradually rise by 2-3ºC during the next five days and heatwave conditions may prevail in the state from March 13-16. Orange and yellow warnings have been issued for eight districts – Boudh, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul and Sonepur – in the state. It has also predicted warm nights in the state from March 14-16.
