Mercury Soars Past 42°C In Odisha By 2.30PM, Bhubaneswar Records 39.4°C

Bhubaneswar: With heatwave sweeping Odisha, Jharsuguda recorded the highest day temperature of 42.4°C by 2.30 pm on Wednesday, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre tweeted.

Two other places in the state record above 40 degree Celsius temperature – Sambalpur 41.8°C and Hirakud 40.4°C. The mercury soared to 35°C and above at six places, including Bhubaneswar (39.4). The other places are Chandbali (39.6), Keonjhar (38), Balasore (37.2) and Puri and Gopalpur at 35.2°C.

By 11.30 this morning, Jharsuguda had recorded the highest of 38.6 degree Celsius, followed by Chandbali (38.4), Balasore (38.2) and Puri and Bhubaneswar at 38 degree Celsius each.

The MeT office has fore forecast further rise in temperature by 2 to 3°C during the next 2 days. The day temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and remain 3 to 5°C above normal at a few places in Odisha during the next 4 days. Heatwave warning has also been issued for several districts of the state till 8.30 am on April 16.

Nine places in Odisha recorded 40 degree Celsius and above with Baripada being the hottest at 41.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
