Paris: Lionel Messi’s Instagram account was blocked after he led Argentina to the FIFA World Cup title in December – for no fault of his own.
Messi himself revealed that the social media platform blocked his account after he received ‘a million messages’ following La Albiceleste’s triumph in Qatar.
One of the greatest footballers of all time, the World Cup was missing from the 35-year-old’s cabinet and he was desperate to lift the glittering trophy in his final World Cup.
He did it in Qatar, winning the Golden Ball and Silver Boot awards after guiding Argentina to their first World Cup win since 1986.
The entire world was praying for an Argentine triumph, or more precisely a Messi win.
And it showed in his social media accounts.
“My Instagram was blocked for a few days because of the amount of messages I received after winning the World Cup,” Barca Universal quoted the Argentine star as saying.
Messi also revealed that he himself runs his Instagram account, and doesn’t use “any company or other person” to manage his posts.
