Abu Dhabi / Dubai, UAE: Amid the ongoing escalation in Middle East, Dubai’s international airport and its landmark Burj Al Arab hotel sustained damage, reportedly due to overnight Iranian retaliatory attacks across the Gulf states and Middle East. The emirate’s media office, as quoted in various reports, claimed early on Sunday that at least four people had sustained injuries at the airport.
According to the Dubai Media Office, one drone was successfully intercepted above Dubai, but debris from that drone fell onto the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel, causing fire that was quickly brought under control. No injuries were reported.
Authorities in both the UAE capital and Dubai have reiterated that most drones and missiles were intercepted by sophisticated air-defence systems.
Civil defence officials have urged residents to follow safety instructions. Iran launched attacks on several US allies across the Middle East, targeting the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia in retaliation for American and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory on Saturday.
Among the other reported targets were Dubai’s Jumeirah Island, the Burj Al Arab Hotel, Dubai International Airport, and Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, along with US military bases in Qatar and Kuwait. A residential building in Bahrain was also struck
