Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped Khandagiri area of Odisha’s capital late Thursday night after a group of youths allegedly stormed a guest house at Gandamunda, assaulted staff members and looted cash from the reception counter.
Three youths have been detained in connection with the incident.
According to sources, the incident, described by locals and guests as “midnight terror,” unfolded when the intruders barged into the facility, vandalised property, and targeted employees at the reception. They also attempted to assault a woman staying at the guest house before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Khandagiri police responded swiftly upon receiving distress calls, chased the perpetrator and nabbed three of them from Chandrasekharpur area. They are being questioned at the police station.
Further investigation is underway to reconstruct the full sequence of events, determine the exact amount looted, assess any injuries sustained by the victims, and identify whether more people were part of the group by examining the CCTV cameras at the guest house.
The robbery has heightened concerns about safety in the area, especially as it follows closely on the heels of another violent incident. Less than a week ago, a young man returning from Khandagiri Jatra was brutally attacked with a sword on AIIMS Road.
