Cuttack: Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha, Abhay on Monday ordered a high-level probe into the death of woman BJD leader of Berhampur, Minakshi Mishra.
She had succumbed to severe burn injuries at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on February 20.
The DGP has asked the IG, Modernisation, Rekha Lohani to probe into the circumstances which had forced the BJD leader for self-immolation.
Mishra had sustained severe burn injuries after she set herself on fire in front of the office of Berhampur SP on February 12. She was protesting against the arrest of her son, Raja Mishra, in a group clash in front of her house on January 28 over a parking issue.
To redress her grievance, Minakshi had gone to meet the SP at his office around 1 pm on February 12. Since SP was not in the office, she met the additional SP who assured her that he would look into the grievance.
However, she later set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her body. Following the incident, police rushed her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur with 95 per cent burn injuries.
In the absence of a Burn unit at MKCG, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack the same day. After undergoing treatment at the SCB for two days, she was referred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on February 14, where she succumbed to her injuries on February 20.
