Mini Helmets For Children Riding Pillion In Odisha Capital!
Bhubaneswar: Small children riding pillion in Odisha capital will soon be seen wearing mini helmets.
These helmets will be distributed by the Commissionerate Police during the 31st National Road Safety Week, which began on Saturday.
“The purpose of mini helmet is to ensure safety of children accompanying the parents as they are more vulnerable to injuries during road mishaps. An accident can cause maximum damage to a child’s skull, which is soft as compared to that of adults,” said DCP (Traffic, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) Sagarika Nath.
Statistics reveal that children are the most vulnerable on roads with 20 deaths being reported every day in India. According to traffic experts, many of these young lives can be saved if helmets are used.
The DCP said that they intend to create awareness about mini helmets. “All persons riding pillion should wear helmets for their own safety,” she added.
The Traffic Wing will also spread awareness against drunken driving and wrong side driving during the week, when police personnel will receive training and awareness on trauma care from critical care specialists.
Painting and quiz competitions will be organised for the children on traffic rules to raise awareness among them, Nath said.
