Minimally Invasive Bypass Surgery At AMRI, Bhubaneswar Gives Man New Lease Of Life
Bhubaneswar: Abdul Osim, a 42-year-old resident of Balasore got a new lease of life at AMRI Hospitals here after a team of doctors performed a minimally invasive bypass surgery on him recently.
Osim was diagnosed with multiple blocks in his heart after a coronary angiography. During a visit to the Cardiac surgery department in AMRI Hospitals, here, Cardiac surgeon Dr Biswajeet Mohapatra advised the minimally invasive bypass surgery. Considering the advantages Osim agreed to go ahead with the surgery.
“In this technique, instead of a large incision over the middle of chest, open-heart surgery is done through a small hole on the side of the chest,” explained Dr Mohapatra.
A team led by Dr Mohapatra, cardiac anaesthesiologist Dr Vivek Chowdhry, Dr Braj Mohan Rath and perfusionist Punyabrat Giri performed the minimally invasive bypass surgery on Osim.
The patient was discharged from the hospital four days after the surgery.
“Minimally invasive bypass surgery has been performed for the first time in our state,” said Dr Mohapatra. This Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery costs the same as normal open-heart surgery and the cost in our state is also much less than that in other metro cities, he added.
Advantages of this technique are, freedom from a large scar over the chest, minimal surgical pain, more patient comfort, less days of hospital stay and early return to regular activities.
AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar is the first hospital in Odisha to offer complete range of Open-heart surgeries by Minimally Invasive technique for the benefit of the people of our state, he said.
The hospital has been performing open heart surgeries like heart hole surgery and heart valve replacement surgery regularly in minimally invasive technique, stated a release.
