Berhampur: A 10-year-old boy died after an iron gate collapsed on him while he was playing with his friends in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.
The incident took place when the minor boy, identified as Pabitra Pahan, son of Karuna Pahan of Tulasipur village under Khallikote police station limits in the district, was playing in front of the Cyclone Shelter in the village. A part of the gate, which was damaged, suddenly collapsed and fell on Pabitra.
The villagers rushed Pabitra to Community Health Center (CHC) at Khallikote. But the doctors of the hospital declared him dead.
On being informed, police went to the spot and registered a case of unnatural death. They have started an investigation into the matter.
The irate villagers alleged that the construction work of the Cyclone Shelter at Tulasipur was of poor standard. Though they had complained about it to the block authorities earlier, the officers did not take any remedial measures, they added.
