Minor Boy From Odisha Hospitalised With Suspected Monkeypox Symptoms In Andhra Pradesh
Bhubaneswar: A minor boy from Odisha is suspected to have been infected with monkeypox in Andhra Pradesh.
The 8-year-old boy, whose parents are daily wagers, had accompanied them when they had gone to Yedlpapdu in Palnadu district in search of work 15 days ago. When the boy had fever and skin rashes a week ago, his parents did not take it seriously. When his condition deteriorated after a week, they rushed him to Government General Hospital (GGH) at Guntur on July 28.
After the doctors of the hospital examined the boy, they admitted him in isolation ward as he had rashes and fever, which are symptoms of monkeypox.
The hospital staff collected the samples including swab from throat, blood, urine, lesions on skin of the boy and sent those to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for test. The test reports are likely to be available on Monday.
“It is a suspected case of monkeypox. For confirmation, we have sent the samples to the National Institute of Virology, Pune and Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad for confirmation,” Zee News quoted District Medical and Health Officer, Guntur Dr Sumaiya Khan as saying.
