Jajpur: A 14-year-old girl was found hanging under mysterious conditions at her school at Badabalikuda under Badachana block in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Sunday with her family alleging that she was murdered.
While the exact reason behind the death of the minor girl was yet to be ascertained, sources said the incident might have taken place due to a love affair.
According to reports, the girl and her alleged boyfriend were stated to have attempted suicide together by hanging. While the girl died, the boy was saved as because of his heavy body weight.
The girl’s father Pankaj Rout alleged that his daughter was murdered in a planned manner. “Around two months ago, I had asked both my daughter and the boy to stay away from each other,” he said, adding that the boy was probably angry after the warning.
The girl suddenly went missing on Saturday evening and she could not be traced till late night despite frantic search by family members and villagers. However, the incident came to light in the wee hours and police informed Rout.
A team from Balichandrapur police station rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
The boy was detained for questioning and investigation is in progress, police said, adding that a clear picture will emerge after post-mortem reported is received.
