Berhampur: A minor girl was killed and her mother critically injured as a truck hit their scooter in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.
As per reports, the accident took place when Gitanjali Mohanty and her 11-year-old daughter Sraddhanjali of Kusharao village under Dharakote police limits in the district were going on the scooter. Gitanjali was taking Sraddhanjali to her school near their house.
On the way, a speeding truck came from behind and hit the mother and daughter at Bada Sankha. Sraddhanjali was thrown off the scooter on the impact of the accident and fell on the ground. She died on the spot.
Sraddhanjali sustained critical injuries as the truck ran over both her legs. The locals rushed her to the hospital at Aska. Later, she was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
On being informed, the police rushed to the accident spot and sent the body of Sraddhanjali for post-mortem. They have seized the vehicle while its driver is absconding.
