Baripada: A ten-year-old girl and her younger brother were killed after the mud wall of their house collapsed following incessant rains at a village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The incident happened at Raidiha village under Udala block in the district late on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Jahsoda Singh and Jyoti Shankar Singh (6), they said.
The family members were sleeping when a wall of their thatched house collapsed and the children got trapped under the debris and died, sources said, adding that the mother of the children and her other son escaped unhurt.
Parts of the mud structure had soaked and had become fragile following incessant rain over the last few days and one of the walls crumbled.
Notably, at least six deaths were reported last week due to wall collapse mishaps in different parts of Odisha following incessant rains under the influence of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Most of the casualties were reported from Koraput, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj districts.
