Berhampur: The minor son of a former sarpanch died of drowning in a pond in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
According to sources, the incident took place while 12-year-old Asutosh Lenka was riding a cycle near cotton mill square in Aska. He lost balance and fell into a pond nearby. Some locals saw him drowning and jumped to the pond to rescue him.
They brought an unconscious Asutosh from the pond and rushed him to the sub-divisional hospital in the town. But the doctors declared him brought dead.
Asutosh was the only child of former sarpanch of Kharia panchayat Arabinda Lenka whose daughter had also met untimely death a few years back.
