Berlin: More than four years after being presumed dead, Congolese footballer Hiannick Kamba has been found alive in Germany.
The right-back, who used to play for Bundesliga side Schalke, reportedly died on January 9, 2016, in a car accident in Congo.
Now, German newspaper Bild has reported that the 33-year-old Kamba is alive and working as a chemical technician in Ruhr, Germany.
“Kamba claims he was abandoned by friends overnight in Congo in January 2016 and left without documents, money and a cell phone,” public prosecutor Anette Milk told the German newspaper.
Milk says that Kamba will now be considered as a witness in the trial against his ex-wife, who is being investigated for fraud.
Kamba and his ex-wife have a 10-year-old son. The woman has denied the fraud charges and reportedly found out about the insurance only after Kamba’s presumed death.
