Bhubaneswar: On the day when Commissionerate Police claimed that the twin cities are safe despite 5 per cent rise in crime rate, unidentified miscreants attacked a woman and kidnapped her daughter at Patharagadia under Infocity police limits here on Wednesday night.
According to sources, the incident took place when the mother and daughter were returning home after attending a wedding.
Four unidentified miscreants tried to kidnap the girl near Raj Batika in Infocity. When her mother rushed to save her, they attacked her and fled towards Chandaka with the girl.
The woman immediately informed police which reached the spot and started investigation into the matter.
The rescue operation began midnight and police have reportedly got some hints about the main accused and identified two associates of him. A motorcycle used in the kidnapping has been seized.
A local youth, who used to stalk the girl, is suspected to be the main accused. “We will nab the kidnappers and rescue the girl soon,” said the police.
