Khurda: Unidentified miscreants looted gold ornaments and other valuable items from a Kali temple at Gurujang in Khurda district on Tuesday night.
According to the sources, the miscreants have broken the lock of the temple. They allegedly looted 200 grams of gold jewellery and other valuable items worth lakhs of rupees from the temple. They also decamped with the temple donation box.
A temple priest discovered the theft after opening the temple gate early this morning and informed the locals.
On being informed, the police and a forensic team rushed to the spot and started investigation, the sources added.
Several temple loot incidents have been reported across the state in the recent past.
- Unidentified miscreants looted gold and silver ornaments from a temple at Sarkar pada village under Jambu Marine police limits in Kendrapara district on December 5.
- Miscreants had decamped with valuables worth lakhs of rupees looting three temples in Soro municipality of Balasore on November 17.
- Unidentified miscreants looted cash from two separate temples in Puri and Dhenkanal districts on July 25. Miscreants stole cash from the donation box of Siruli Mahabir temple in Puri. Likewise, burglars made away with a huge amount of money from Malapura Ram Mandir in Kamakhyanagar after breaking open the donation box of the temple.
- Unidentified miscreants looted gold ornaments and cash from a Hanuman temple at Khandol under Mahanga block in Salepur area of Cuttack district on July 22. The gold eyes of the idol were stolen and locks of the donation box in the temple broken.
- A gang of burglars on July 8, looted idols and silver ornaments from a temple of Lord Hanuman at Deogaon village under Ghashipura police limits in Keonjhar district. The looted items, included three brass idols and silver ornaments which were used for adorning the idols.
